Dear NY Community,

As we welcome the new semester, I want to recognize yesterday’s events in DC.  We are horrified at the display of violence and anger in the nation’s Capital.

At this time of national need, let us all reaffirm our commitment to the college’s core values of compassion, mindfulness and integrity.  As the college moves forward, we will continue to fulfill our mission to “improve lives by educating and inspiring compassionate, skilled leaders of traditional medicine and integrative health sciences.â€Â  We can all find comfort in the knowledge that you, as healers, provide the compassion and healing that the country and world so desperately needs.

Campus Safety Measures and Protocols

Looking at New York, we are continuing to monitor city and state positivity rates and other guidelines as we determine any possibilities for Winter 2021 schedule changes or delays. We have been following the guidelines from the and the CDC. As the parameters for larger scale community activities shift, we will continue to take those into our considerations for the college’s activities as well. Please be aware that we will communicate any changes or updates via email to our community in a timely manner so that if need be, appropriate actions can be taken.

Self-Screening and On-Campus Requirements

For those who will be visiting campus for any reason (in-person clinic/classes, clinic treatments, using the library, etc.), each time you come to campus you must complete the self-screening form. The  is available on the StudentHub. You can access it from your phone or other internet-capable device. The form allows you to confirm you have no symptoms and are ready for lab. Once completed, you will receive an email confirmation. In addition, an email with information about using the library is attached.

Protocols for Campus Visits

Please remember the following when you come to campus:

  • Face-masks will be required to enter and must always be worn while in the building.
  • You must check-in at the clinic before entering the campus. Follow the signs to the screening checkpoint near the John street clinic entrance where you’ll show your clearance email and have your temperature taken. If you have a temperature over 100 degrees or answer yes to any of the screening questions, you will not be allowed to enter.
  • We recommend you arrive 15 minutes early to account for the screening procedure.
  • You will be given scrubs clinic and massage classes and gowns for acupuncture classes. Changing areas are available in the clinic and on the 19th floor.

COVID-19 Reporting and Training

During this time that cases are surging across the country, I ask that everyone be diligent in wearing their masks, social distancing, and reporting signs and symptoms when they appear, not just prior to coming to campus. Please use this to report an illness, positive test, or exposure as soon as you experience any of these situations, regardless of if you’ve been on campus. The sooner you report these concerns, the sooner we can take all necessary steps to protect our community. For more information on the protocols we follow, please see the attached one-page sheets.

Each student will also need to complete training which has been added as a course within . Please complete all training assigned. This should be completed prior to returning to campus. Depending on your program and if you’ll be in the clinic, you might be enrolled in more than one orientation course.

The NY courses are:

  • Clinic orientation course – CLINICORIENTATION.01.2021W.NY
  • Massage orientation course – MTORIENTATION.01.2021W.NY
  • Acupuncture orientation course – ACUORIENTATION.01.2021W.NY

In addition to the online orientation, the COVID 19 preparedness plan is linked to the website (/news/tag/covid-19-information). Please review it before coming to campus. A one-page information sheet is also attached to this email.

Campus Facilities and Parking Information

Unfortunately, due to space restrictions and safety concerns, students will not be allowed to take online classes from campus, including from the library and student lounge. Please speak with a student advisor if you need to adjust your schedule.

We have negotiated a $25 parking for anyone who wants to enter before 9am and leave before 9am. The parking lot is the gold\pearl parking lot.

We thank you in advance for helping to keep our community safe by following these safety precaution. Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to another successful semester!

With kindness,

Malcolm Youngren

Interim Chief Executive Officer
